I would like to begin the list with a book every teacher should read as it will change the way you teach reading forever:
The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller - easy to read, challenging yet so logical. She believes the best way to teach children to read and love reading is to let them read quality books. She lets her students choose the books they want to read and encourages real reading of books instead of what she calls kill and drill reading activities. She also refers to snatching reading time -like when the class is interupted because the teacher is sent a message or has to deal with an issue or whilst waiting to line up for school photos - she encourages the students to take out their books and read read read!!! And they do!!!! Click on the link to read more.
Reading To Live and Writing to Live by Lorraine Wilson - Excellent ideas for teaching literacy in today's classroom. Read more or purchase the books by clicking on the underlined link.
If You're Trying to Teach Kids How To Write Then You've Gotta have this Book by Marjorie Frank - packed full of ideas for teaching writing in authentic ways. She deals particularly well with inspiring children to write and the process of writing as well as brilliant questions and techniques for helping children to revise and review their own writing to improve it. Well worth a read. Available from Amazon.com.

As part of the leading to leadership course I am completing an action research project to investigate the use of wikis for teachers in the ACT. The idea of this wiki is to share best practice, educational websites, books and other resources and ideas with teachers in the ACT.
You are lucky enough to be selected as part of my research group. Therefore I have sent you a link to this wiki to see what you think of it and how useful you feel wikis could be to the future sharing of best practice amongst ACT teachers. I have included some awesome resources, websites and teaching ideas on this wiki which I hope you will take a look at and use in your teaching. All I ask is that after you have taken a look at the wiki you complete a short online survey by clicking on this underlined link so I can gather your responses to help me with my research project.

For those of you who are not sure how a wiki works I have included a link to a short and entertaining u-tube clip below which explains how wikis work. Even if you know about wikis it is quite an amusing video so I recommend you click on the arrow and see it for yourself.
